The Library
The more one works with the nine voices, the more one appreciates that their names and their one-line definitions are only starting points. A deeper appreciation of the details, subtleties and nuances of each voice accumulates with every exploratory conversation that you have with a profile owner. The 'longer reads' pieces in this section of Resourceful are not a substitute for those first-hand encounters with others' lived experiences, but a complementary way of accumulating a rich appreciation of the voices and the value of continuing to reflect on them.
Voices by the Book
A list of further reading can be helpful for continuing professional development, especially perhaps when accompanied by short descriptions or an explanation for any recommendations. This section of Resourceful takes the idea in a slightly different direction, more focused but deeper. Each of the pieces in Voices By The Book focuses on one of the nine voices and on a particular book, chosen by VoicePrint creator Alan Robertson, to highlight features of that voice. These are not reviews or critiques so much as appreciations of these books in terms of how they can sharpen our understanding of a particular voice. They are offered as thought-provokers, to encourage continuing reflection about the differences between one voice and another and about some of the subtleties that give each voice its distinctive function and character.
Voices at Work
The pieces in this section are a form of case study. None of the individuals featured in this selection was in a development programme or being coached. The majority were personal acquaintances who volunteered to complete a VoicePrint self-perception profile and then to discuss with the author how its shape reflected the sorts of demands and challenges made by their role. Others are drawn from day to day episodes observed or experienced by the author and comprise reflections through the lens of the VoicePrint model on what was said and the effects that this had. In each case some key learning points are suggested.
